“It’s Okay” is Magic Moments’ first release of 2021 and it features the debut of singer and co-writer meeemz. Arriving on February 12th, It’s Okay is about getting over heartbreak. The duet’s featured vocalist and the song’s co-writer meeemz takes listeners through her story of love, loss, grief, obsession and the ultimate discovery of how to find peace on the other side.
Musically, “It’s Okay” is equally inspired by hyperpop, electronic pop, beatwave and lofi hip hop. Created over the course of two studio sessions recorded in Magic’s bedroom studio in Los Angeles, the collaboration produced a song with enchanting melodies, heart pounding rhythms, deeply personal lyrics and authentically raw vocal performances. meeemz’ ethereal voice floats above Magic’s swirling pianos, violins and 808 crescendos, giving the song several distinct movements, like acts to an epic tale of love lost and found again.
meeemz begins her story by recounting “On nights like this / I lay awake in my bed / And try as I might / I can’t keep you out of my head.” Later, Magic relates to the feeling when he raps “I was gutted / You strutted your stuff / Everything I tried / Tears I cried it was rough / Had your love died / Someone new by your side / Got you numb or high / But it’s alright.” Both of our protagonists are in the midst of heartbreak and trying to reconcile the conflicting emotions to find a resolution. At the end of the song meeemz appears to find her way out of the grief by discovering “It’s okay I realized you’re still in love and I can’t hate / Because it’s not with me / Life is sweet / And I got no time to waste / I’m no longer fazed / No longer afraid / My love can’t be taken away.” What started out sorrowful has transformed into something more optimistic with the help of a new awareness of how good things can be once we realize love is and always will be with us because it comes from within.
