about
Magic Moments released “Moomba Love (Stepping Life’s Dances)” featuring Isa Peña on March 21st. Magic Moments is a singer-songwriter, producer and video artist from Los Angeles, California, aiming to spread love and positivity through his music and lyrics. This is his third release for 2017, setting a pattern for new singles every month and it’s also his second project of the year to feature global collaborations.
The Dancehall inspired single tells the story of young love, and a strong talent driven girl, told from the perspective of the present day, as young Magic is calling attention to all the strong women his life and people who’ve inspired him by following their dreams even in the face of challenges. From love at first site, Magic sing/raps: “I was thinking about / That night I went out / And met you at the dancehall / I knew right then and there I had it all / So I brought it true / And so did you / And I guess since we were ready / It happened instantly / Anything we could dream / We could make a reality!”
The song features guest vocals from Instagram starlit Isa Peña, whose own creative endeavors and vocal style embody the character of our song. Magic found her on the platform after seeing her incredible collection of posted work, and it was an easy decision to reach out to the Miami based singer who sings the main hook and chorus of the song, but also shares her vocal talents throughout the entire song including during the epic final seconds. She sings in the main hook: “We always follow our hearts and take chances / We are fearless stepping life’s dances!”
Musically, Magic Moments drew inspiration from time he spent in Jamaica, specifically Dancehall music and culture. Jamaican culture including Rastafarianism, Reggae music and his biggest musical hero Bob Marley, have all been among the most influential sources of inspiration not just creatively, but more importantly spiritually and in a life-style sense during all of Magic’s life. Though he wouldn’t personally call Moomba Love a Dancehall song, the foundation upon which this song was written is in full honor of the decades of musicians, singers and dancers who have created and cultivated one of the most moving forms of music and dance and expression. In the guidance of these personal creative icons, young Magic brewed his own blend of melodic progression and arrangement, including blending synths, pianos and guitars with drums and bass in various ways to create powerful movements and rises and drops within the 8 minute club ballad.
Magic Moments also turned to Instagram to find the creator of the official Moomba Love artwork, Geneva B. After he shared the song and story with her, she joined the project, and created a piece of work that captures both our brightest vision for ourselves, and the universality of being passionate and following your dreams and your heart. The artwork depicts our Jamaican performers telling their story, while Magic and Isa are below singing their own stories as well. Geneva was able to bring together all these perspectives in her art for Moomba Love in a way that is timeless, fun and playful.
Together all of these aspects come together to create the Moomba Love (Stepping Life’s Dances) audio/visual experience.
